Metaprogram GISA - Foresee project

Virus-host-environment interplay and drivers behind pathogen emergence, spread and persistence: Rift Valley fever (RVF) as a case study

INRA Metaprogram GISA (Integrated management of animal health) is promoting integrative research within INRA departments in order to improve animal production and health. FORESEE consortium is investigating through a multidisciplinary approach, the key drivers and processes of RVF outbreaks which occurred in Senegal and Mauritania, from 2010 to 2015.

The main objectives of the project are:

  • Identify and investigate the factors related to virology, climate and animal mobility that are likely influencing RVF outbreaks and unveil how these different parameters are interconnected (i.e. impact each other);
  • Map interactions among viral genetic characteristics and outbreak severity in space and time
  • Develop more detailed and up to date effective methods for RVFV outbreak prediction, prevention and control in West Africa
